The Secluded Garden
HANNAH WEEKES
The Secluded Garden is part of a series of Batiks that I have created during the COVID-19 lockdown. I have recently been reflecting on and enjoying the simple pleasures in life, such as the way the light falls through my windows onto my living room floor or how it casts dancing shadows on the walls. I have found that the most important thing during this time of chaos is experiencing moments of tranquility, particularly amongst a hectic city life. Throughout this series I have thought back to moments when I have experienced tranquility. The Secluded Garden depicts a hotel I stayed at in the bustling and colourful city of Marrakesh, where taking time to cool off and enjoy the chirping birds and towering plants in this little courtyard was very much needed in the heat of August, having just been trekking and camping in the mountains for the past week.
